Where Should We Go Skiing?

My husband and I want to take a ski trip and get away from the Texas sun. I’ve been skiing all my life in the Pacific Northwest so I want to go somewhere that I haven’t been. We’ve narrowed down our areas to:
Telluride, CO
Park City, UT
Somewhere in Vermont
We are looking for the small snow town feel. We want to go somewhere that we can enjoy the lodge feel w/ a nice cup of coffee and a fire place…somewhere to relax. I am going to try to snowboard this time around so I’d say we want to go where the beginners are tolerated and welcomed (I’ve skiied in some snotty areas). The snow is important, but I think the feeling of a little village, some shopping around, night life and great eats are more important.
Each of these places cost around the same, so now it is down to your opinions.
I appreciate any feed back…especially if you’ve expericanced it. |

Check this out. Great family place, great for beginners, not too far from Winter Park CO, so the night life and eats are only 15 minutes away.

Well, I was going to suggest Ski Bluewood or Mission Ridge for the small town feel, but you over ruled them, So I’d try Park City for a better shot at powder, which we seldom get in the PNW, but had some good storms last season.

I’ve been to all the areas you mentioned. You haven’t mentioned whether slope side lodging is important or whether you don’t mind a shuttle bus etc. to get to the hill.
Of the three, I’d suggest Stratton Vt. It has slope side lodging and a reasonable base village right there. Snow is usually dependable after January. The only negative is that you’ll have a fair bus ride from (probably Boston) to get there. I’d say that Stratton has the best small area flavor.
Park City can also be self contained and it’s easier to get to from say the SLC airport than Stratton is from Boston. The base area and the ski resort itself is bigger and busier. Still, because it’s bigger, there (is) more variety. (If) you are interested in powder, and/or off trail skiing, Park City is a better bet than Stratton.
Telluride is a great resort for good skiers and easy to get to from Texas. The town is nice but a litttle spread out from the base area. The shuttle system is pretty good there so you can get around reasonably well. Depending upon where you stay, you may not be able to walk from lodging to dinner or to hang out.
